Death occurring in Police custody is not an in frequent occurrence. It is always presumed by the Press, Public and Administrative authorities that cause of death in all such cases would be due to Physical torture. A study of deaths in Police custody presented to the Standing Medical Board for examination for the last three years were examined to determine causes of death in this situation on scientific grounds. The various non-traumatic causes of death found are due to natural diseases and self-poisoning.
