The Incidence and Types of Infections in Children with Nephrotic Syndrome

Infection is major complication of nephrotic syndrome and has been recognized as an important cause of morbidity and mortality in children with nephrotic syndrome. This study was conducted to determine the incidence of infections in children with enphrotic syndrome and also the type of infections in children with nephrotic syndrome. One hundred and five children, with nephrotic syndrome, age group 0 to 16 years, were evaluated through detail history, clinical examination ad investigations during a period of one year. Out of them 69 were males while 36 were female. The incidence of infection in children with nephritic syndrome was 39%. Urinary tract infection was the commonest infection followed by peritonitis, URTI, pneumonia, acute diarrhea, sepsis, cellulitis, viral infection, pulmonary tuberculosis and empyema.
