Management of Hepatic Injuries

A two years study from March 1995 to February 1997 regarding the management of liver injuries was carried out at the West Surgical Ward of Mayo Hospital Lahore. This study comprised of 41 patients. Mode of injury was penetrating trauma in 71% of the cases and blunt trauma in 21% cases. 85% patients were male. 40% of the total patients were in the age group between 31-40 years. 65% of the patients had injury to the right lobe of liver. 61%patients had Grade 1 and Grade II injuries, 26% had Grade III injuries and 13% had Grade IV and Grade V injuries. 56% of the total patients underwent suture ligation and 26% underwent hepatotomy and resectional debridement. Two patients were subjected to temporary internal packing. Mortality in this was 8%.Downloads
