Percutaneous Central Venous Catheterisation In Children

Along with its advantages, the central venous cannulation in children has its potential complications also. The study is aimed at our practice of CVC in children under going heart surgery. In this prospective study, 90 children undergoing heart surgery were studied for central venous catheterization. Success rate, complications, and its rate was observed. These children were from 3kg to 3kg body weight and 25 days to 12 years old. 72.2% CVC were inserted in one attempt; 83.33% in two: 94.4% in three attempts. Carotid artery was punctured in 8.88%; significant hematoma in 5.55% patients. There was no fatality, or surgical intervention the minor complications (22.2% included difficulty in localizing internal jugular vein (11.11% and difficulty in passing the J-wire or the catheter 11.11%. our practice of CVC in Children compares favourably with similar international studies.Downloads
