Abstract

Sixty patients with strong clinical suspicion of cholecystitis with cholelithiasis were studied in surgical and medial units of Nishtar Medical College, Multan and Lahore General Hospital, Lahore. Ultrasound was found to be the most sensitive investigation in the diagnosis of cholelithiasis with cholecystitis with a sensitivity of 98%. The diagnostic yield of oral cholecystogram was 87.7%. EHIDA Scan confirmed acute cholecystitis in 36% of patients and indicated gall bladder disease in another 36% of patients. The evidence of gall stone disease on EHIDA Scan is indirect, but is superior to other modalities in the diagnosis of acute cholecystitis.
