ABOUT ANNALS KEMU
King Edward Medical University was established in 1860 as the Lahore Medical College. King Edward Medical University is the oldest educational institute in Pakistan. It is the fourth oldest medical school in South Asia, after Medical College Kolkata(January 28, 1835), Madras Medical College, Chennai (February 2, 1835) and Grant Medical College, Bombay (1845).
On December 21, 1911, Lahore Medical College was renamed King Edward Medical College in Honor of the late King and Emperor and was elevated to the status of an independent, degree-granting university on May 12, 2005, when it became King Edward Medical University. King Edward Medical University has been actively engaged in postgraduate studies with emphasis on research projects.
During the tenure of Prof Naseer M. Akhtar (1995-1997, Directory of all the research work done & being conducted was prepared and Annals of King Edward Medical University-a quarterly journal was launched and recognized by PMDC. It was first published in April 1995 with Prof. Abdul Majeed Ch. as Editor of Annals of KEMU. Then Prof. Syed Muhammad Awais, who worked very devotedly and efficiently and contributed a lot for the progress of Annals, was appointed as Editor in 2007. After his retirement in Dec 2015, Dr. Saira Afzal (The Chairperson of Department of Community Medicine) became the First Female Editor of Annals in the history of KEMU. Under her dynamic leadership the Annals is setting a new trajectory of brilliance and a novel precedent of success in research. Apart from being recognized by PMDC, the Higher Education Commission has upgraded the Annals of KEMU to category ‘X’.
